Should you Tweet while cooking?

July 20, 2011

While most days I can manage a few mundane tweets, its not very often I get a chance to write on my blog.  But ‘great balls of fire’ its the Summer hols! No manic commute to Ross-on-Wye four times, yes four times, a day! No grumpy and tired children being rushed to finish their tea, have their bath, or  grumble about stories being read by a semi-conscious mum.  But here I am conscious at 9 o’clock at night, with out the aid of Starbucks or Illys, and my fingers are flying over the keyboard.

The earlier post of The Makings of A Social Media Slut http://bit.ly/p2Tj0P had me chuckling!.  As I realised I too have a preoccupation, the Klout! I think I’ve become  a girl geek!.  Its hard not to be, as its easy to become immersed in the social media quagmire; as wherever you look online there is a plethora of information about social media….and you need to know where to look!  Sites like Econsultancy, BigmouthMedia, Social Media Today, Mashable and Jeff Bullas’s blog are great place to kick-start your social media addiction. These few have enabled me to achieve a good grounding in social media best practices; as I’ve had a steep learning curve, from know-nothing to think I know-something.  However, it good to be grounded, the team I work in when I mention Klout  laugh and roll their eyes. In their vocabulary Klout is a euphemism for a delicate part of the female anatomy!  It’s difficult, but highly entertaining being a girl/lady in what is predominantly a male dominated industry.

But there are dangers lurking everywhere, no one tells you how addictive social media and smart phones are: I was reading/ responding to some tweets on my BlackBerry and I’m afraid I became distracted and burnt the rice. The rice had a faintly barbequed taste, tho not wholly unpalatable?  But it seems that the Social Media scene is a nocturnal world of intriguing tweets, status updates and gimmicks that distract, just when I thought it was safe to wind down after a day at the Tweetface!

Oh and despite polishing the floor and nearly killing a viewer, I’ve managed to sell my house! Only took a year:-) So not more deep cleaning with bleach cleaner.

That is incorrigible, but not unusual..Social Media is very addictive:-) I was just amazed that the kids ate it, shows how bad my cooking skills are. I’ll be taking advantage of Twitters 140 character recipes…
